Our suggestion for a childs first detector! The Mark-2 Metal Detector was designed and first manufactured by Bill Hays of Hays Electronics in 1962. This unit features the same electronics as the Mark-1 but with a smaller waterproof 5-inch search loop. Years later, with over 70,000 units sold, Hays Electronics is still manufacturing this rugged easy to use unit. This tried and true detector is our suggestion for youngsters because it is easy to use and folds down to a child sized length. While many low priced detectors are easy to use, most do not fold down to a child sized length. This is a great detector and inexpensive way to introduce your child to the hobby. If you would like a model that will go just a bit deeper, take a look at the Hays Mark I detector.
